August 6, 2022

Dear Road Church Friends,

Tomorrow, the first Sunday in August, is our Communion service. It is a time to renew our bonds as the family of God who calls our sanctuary it’s spiritual home. It is a time to remember Jesus as our Lord and Savior, who is with us always, and whose presence we experience in the blessing, breaking and partaking of bread together. There is spiritual vitality to be gained in gathering together to break bread. The kingdom draws near and our fears recede.

I’ve asked Rev. Stan White, recently retired Pastor of Preston City Congregational Church, to lead our worship service and bring a message of encouragement to prepare our hearts to break bread together. He is looking forward to meeting all of you.

SCRIPTURE:  LUKE 12:32-34

Do not be afraid, little flock, for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom. Sell your possessions, and give alms. Make purses for yourselves that do not wear out, an unfailing treasure in heaven, where no thief comes near and no moth destroys. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

HYMN FOR THE DAY: “Break Thou the Bread of Life, Dear Lord to Me”

THOUGHT FOR TODAY

“Fear not little flock. Your Father has given you all the spiritual resources of his kingdom.”

PRAYER FOR TODAY

O Lord God, rescue us from ourselves and the anxieties that so easily take hold of us. Take from us everything that draws us away from you, and give us all things that draw us closer to you. In times of anxiety give us serenity, in times of hardship, grant us courage, in times of uncertainty, grant us patience, and all the time give us a steady trust in the ultimate triumph of your kingdom. Amen.

POEM FOR TODAY

Heaven above is softer blue, earth beneath is sweeter green.

Something lives in every hue, Christless eyes have never seen.

Birds with gladder songs o’erflow, flowers with deeper beauty shine

Since I know as now I know, I am his and he is mine.

Blessings to you all,

May God supply all of your needs,

Pastor Norm
