FROM THE PASTOR

Preparation for May 31, 2020 Message

Dear Road Church Family and Friends,

This weeks’ message will be reflection on the story of Naomi and Ruth. I invite you to read their story in the Book of Ruth. It’s a little book of only 4 short chapters. It is located in the Bible between the Book of Judges and 1 Samuel. It’s one of the most beautiful stories in the Bible and is a classic of ancient literature. It has an ancient setting but the story is timeless. Its main characters are two destitute widows, Naomi and her daughter-in-law, Ruth. The plot of their story is about how through their industry and wits they manage to achieve a happy future for themselves. On the surface it’s a “rags to riches” story, but it’s about much more than that. It’s also a love story, and a lesson in how the providence of God is at work in our lives. It is an uplifting story with a happy ending. Just the sort of thing we all need to read these days.

If you are not familiar with the story you may be familiar with a quote from the book that is often used in wedding ceremonies and other happy family occasions. “Where you go I will go. Where you lodge I will lodge. Your people shall be my people, and your God my God. Where you die I will die, and there I will be buried?”

All of you remain in my thoughts and prayers,

The Lord be with you.
