Second Sunday of Lent

          March 2, 2023

Dear Road Church Friends,

John 3:16 is the most often quoted verse of scripture in the entire Bible. It is the perfect one-line introduction to Christianity. It captures the essential message of the Christian faith more clearly and concisely than any other sentence in the New Testament. It is one of the first verses that children are taught to memorize in Sunday school. It flows so naturally that once you’ve learned it, it’s almost impossible to forget. It’s not uncommon to see it featured on billboards along well-traveled highways. Despite its familiarity, we should not take its message for granted. it should remind us that the God we serve loves this world and the people of all nations, races and religions. Our new birth from above is our calling to embody this good news.

SCRIPTURE: John 3:14-17   SERMON TITLE:  Jesus Lifted Up

Just as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up, 15 that whoever believes in him may have eternal life. 16 “For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life. 17 “Indeed, God did not send the Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.

The Wideness of God’s Mercy

There’s a wideness in God’s mercy, like the wideness of the sea.

There’s a kindness in his justice, which is more than liberty.

There is welcome for the sinner, adre graces for the good.

There is mercy with the Savior, there is healing in his blood.

For the love of God is broader, than the measure of man’s mind.

And the heart of the Eternal, is most wonderfully kind.

If our love were but more simple, we should take him at his word.

And our lives would all be sunshine, in the sweetness of our Lord.
