Dear Road Church Friends,

Christmas Day is close at hand. May all the Hope, the Peace, the Love, the Joy that have been the theme of our Advent services find a place in your hearts and homes. Some of us are gathering in the Road Church Sanctuary at 4 pm this afternoon for a time of prayer, readings and to hear a few beautiful selections of Christmas music played by Michael, Carolyn and Lisa.

You are invited. The service should last about 40 minutes.

Our spiritual forbears, the New England Puritans, denounced the observance of Christmas from their pulpits, calling it both ungodly and un-Christian. As it was celebrated then, they were right. What is the story behind the redemption of Christmas? Gather with us Sunday morning at 10 am to hear this remarkable and inspiring story.

SCRIPTURE: Luke 1:46-50               Sermon Title: “How the Church Saved Christmas”

And Mary said, “My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, for he has looked with favor on the lowliness of his servant. Surely, from now on all generations will call me blessed; for the Mighty One has done great things for me, and holy is his name. His mercy is for those who fear him from generation to generation.

THE WHOLE YEAR CHRISTMAS

Oh, could we keep the Christmas thrill,

The gold of gladness and good-will,

The lift of laughter and the touch

Of kindled hands that utter much,

Not once a year, but all the time,

The melody of hearts in chime,

The impulse beautiful and kind,

Of soul to soul and mind to mind.

What a different world this would be!

For we would see as children see,

If only a magic way were found

To make us children the whole year round.!

LET US PRAY   Loving Father, today we remember the birth of Jesus. We pray that he might be born anew in us that the door of hate be closed in our hearts and the door of love for all the whole creation be opened wide. Deliver us from evil and teach us to be merry with clean hearts. May Christmas morning make us happy to be your children and Christmas evening bring us to our beds with grateful thoughts, forgiving and forgiven, for Jesus’ sake. Amen.

The grace of Christ, the love of God and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with us all.

 Merry Christmas
