Dear Road Church Friends,

Recently I have been thinking about one of Jesus most famous sayings. Immediately after the Beatitudes Jesus says to his disciples, You are the salt of the earth. But what good is salt if it has lost its flavor? Can you make it salty again? It will be thrown out and trampled underfoot as worthless. What exactly does it mean?  It is so familiar we think we know, but do we really? How does saltiness translate into our attitudes and actions? How does salt lose its flavor? Jesus regarded saltiness so important that he says we are good for nothing without it.

It behooves us then, to think more deeply about what it means to be salty. That is the question I hope to answer in the Sunday morning message.

SCRIPTURE:  Matthew 5:13    SERMON:   Salt, Not Sand

You are the salt of the earth. But what good is salt if it has lost its flavor? Can you make it salty again? It will be thrown out and trampled underfoot as worthless.

YOU ARE THE SALT OF THE EARTH

You are the salt of the earth, called to be medicinal and deter decay,

Called by the Great Physician,—the Way,—to heal sin-sick souls.

You are the salt of the earth, placed here to purify and edify,

Born to beautify and magnify the Most High,

Placed to preserve and protect that which is good.

You are the salt of the earth, a seed sown to season tasteless lives,

Bring music to mournful souls, bring the brightness of the sun,

To those who moan and groan in the dark.
