Dear Road Church Friends,

I’ve been reading a report recently published by The Harvard Study of Adult Development which has followed the lives of two generations of individuals from the same families for more than eighty years. The big question they have studied from the beginning is, “What makes a good life?” The Study has gathered lots of data since they began asking questions and doing interviews since the 1940’s. In a 2007 survey, millennials (born between 1981-96) were asked about their most important life goals. Seventy-six percent said that becoming rich was their number one goal. More than a decade later their top goals still centered around making money. Although we tend to measure success in terms of material things, most of us have learned from experience that the best things in life are not things. Jesus had a lot to say about happiness. He called it the kingdom of God. Sunday’s message is about Jesus’ prescription for a good life.

SCRIPTURE:   Matthew 5:3-10 GNT   SERMON: Jesus’ Prescription for a Good Life

Happy are those who know they are spiritually poor; the Kingdom of heaven belongs to them! Happy are those who mourn; God will comfort them!

Happy are those who are humble; they will receive what God has promised!

Happy are those whose greatest desire is to do what God requires; God will satisfy them fully! Happy are those who are merciful to others; God will be merciful to them!

Happy are the pure in heart; they will see God!

Happy are those who work for peace; God will call them his children!

Happy are those who are persecuted because they do what God requires; the Kingdom of heaven belongs to them!

A BEAUTIFUL LIFE

Each day I’ll do a golden deed, By helping those who are in need;
My life on earth is but a span, And so I’ll do the best I can.

To be a child of God each day, My light must shine along the way;
I’ll sing His praise while ages roll, And strive to help some troubled soul.

The only life that will endure, Is one that’s kind and good and pure;

And so for God I’ll take my stand, Each day I’ll lend a helping hand.

I’ll help someone in time of need, And journey on with rapid speed,

I’ll help the sick and poor and weak, And words of kindness to them speak.

While going down life’s weary road, I’ll try to lift some trav’ler’s load;
I’ll try to turn the night to day, Make flowers bloom along the way.
