Dear Road Church Friends,

During May and June millions of young men and women are experiencing the joy of graduation. But their joy is mixed with anxiety caused by other questions that weigh heavily upon them: “What do I do now that I’m educated?” “Where do I go from here?”  At the same time millions of parents, who are beginning to enjoy their “empty nest,” quickly reply to their graduates, “You can go anywhere but here!” In other words, “You can’t go home again.” And so the drama of one of life’s basic lessons plays itself out once again in the hearts of a new generation: “You can’t go home again.” There is a great deal of tried and true wisdom in this old proverb. This is what the parable of Adam and Eve is all about. This Bible story is traditionally known as “The Fall of Man,” but I prefer to think of it as “The Graduation of Man,” from Childhood to Adulthood.

SCRIPTURE

GENESIS 3:22-24

Then the LORD God said, “See, the man has become like one of us, knowing good and evil; and now, he might reach out his hand and take also from the tree of life, and eat, and live forever”— therefore the LORD God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from which he was taken. He drove out the man; and at the east of the garden of Eden he placed the cherubim, and a sword flaming and turning to guard the way to the tree of life.

REVELATION 22:21

The grace of the Lord Jesus be with all the saints. Amen.

SERMON:  You Can’t Go Home Again

I WOULD BE TRUE

I would be true, for there are those who trust me,

I would be pure, for there are those who care,

I would be strong, for there is much to suffer,

I would be brave, for there is much to dare,

I would be friend of all—the foe, the friendless

I would be giving, and forget the gift,

I would be humble, for I know my weakness,

I would look up, and love, and laugh, and lift.

Blessings to all,
